Mark
Bergel, Ph.D. - Founder & Executive Director
Dr.
Bergel founded A Wider Circle in 2001 and has emerged as a
leader in the movement to end poverty. He is a nationally acclaimed
speaker in the fields of poverty, health, and social connection
and has been featured on national television and radio programs.
Dr. Bergel earned a B.A. from Northwestern University
and went on to receive both Masters and Doctoral
degrees from American University. In 2010, Dr. Bergel was voted
one of People Magazine and Major League Baseball's "All
Stars Among Us." He has also received the Essence of Leadership
Award at the Greater DC Cares Business and Nonprofit Philanthropy
Summit and the Community Foundation for the National Capital
Region's Linowes Leadership Award, created to recognize "unsung
heroes" in the community. Dr. Bergel is the author of
the upcoming book, What is Possible.

Anne
Thompson, Ph.D. - Deputy Director
Dr. Thompson began volunteering for A Wider Circle
in 2005 and joined the Board of Directors in 2008. In 2010, she became the Assistant
Director, in charge of operations. A child psychologist by training, Dr. Thompson
previously worked at Kidspace Child and Family Development Center. She received
her B.A. in Psychology from Stanford University and her Ph.D. in clinical psychology
from the George Washington University.

Edwin
Bowen - Neighbor to Neighbor Program Coordinator
"I consider this more of a blessing than a job," says
Edwin, who first came to A Wider Circle as a volunteer through
the Arbor Education and Training Program. He graduated from John
F. Kennedy High School in 2004 and studied computer networking
at ITT Technical Institute. As the Neighbor-to-Neighbor Program
Coordinator, Edwin manages teams of staff, interns and volunteers
each day, working six - seven days every week to ensure that
we have all the items necessary to serve families in need. |

Kerry Bowen - Outreach and Management
Fellow
Kerry first came to A Wider Circle as a summer intern in 2009. After
graduating from the University of Mary Washington in May 2011, where
she double majored in Economics and Sociology, she is thrilled
to return to A Wider Circle as an Outreach and Management Fellow.

Marian Cooper - Director of Research & Education
Marian came to A Wider Circle when she decided to make a career
change from costume design for theater to community service. Marian
spends her days working with volunteers and helping to build relationships
with schools and local community organizations. Marian
also volunteers twice a week working with the homeless outside of Union
Station. Marian received a B.A. in Fashion Design from Philadelphia University
and an M.F.A from Temple University.

Liz Anne Ganiban - Education Coordinator
Liz Anne joined A Wider Circle as the Project Manager
for Sibley Plaza’s Sacred Space. Liz Anne is working with the senior
and disabled residents of Sibley Plaza as they create an expansive and
beautiful meditative garden in front of their residence on North Capitol
Street in Northwest DC. Liz Anne received her law degree from Temple Law
School and her B.A. from the University of Dayton.

Chanel Giles
- Director of Operations
Chanel grew up in Baltimore, MD, and attended
Morgan State University. She  began volunteering with A Wider Circle
in 2009 and was soon hired as a Management Assistant. Currently,
Chanel oversees the warehouse to ensure all clients and donors have a
positive experience. |

Amanda Johnson - Client Relations
Coordinator
Amanda came to A Wider Circle as an AmeriCorps *VISTA volunteer
and currently serves as the Client Relations Coordinator,
helping to oversee all activities at A Wider Circle's Center
for Community Service. Amanda received her B.A. in Communications/Journalism
from Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania. Prior to
joining A Wider Circle, Amanda was in Shreveport, LA interning
at a free medical clinic where her interest in non-profits
flourished.

Liz Luckey - Marketing
and Community Outreach Fellow
Liz
received her B.A. in Religion and French from Davidson College,
where she also played on the varsity field hockey team. After
teaching English in the French Alps for a year, she joined
A Wider Circle as a Marketing and Community Outreach Fellow
in August 2011.

David Morgan - Neighbor-to-Neighbor
Program Coordinator
David graduated from Millersville University where he
played on the Division II soccer team and graduated with
a degree in Communications in May 2011. He recently joined
the staff as part of the Neighbor-to-Neighbor team, helping
to spread awareness and restore dignity to the lives
of the individuals we serve. |

Gail Morrell -
Director of Client Relations
Gail handles all interactions with the 250 social service agencies calling us
to help their clients through our Neighbor-to-Neighbor Program. This includes taking program-related calls, collecting and tracking information on our clients,
and scheduling appointments for clients to visit A Wider Circle’s Center for
Community Service to select items they need. Gail received her B.A. in
psychology from Hunter College in New York City.

Katie Reidy - Director of In-Kind Donations
Katie first came to A Wider Circle in the Summer of 2009
as a Neighbor-to-Neighbor and Public Housing intern.
After graduating from the University of Maryland in 2009
with a B.S. in Family Science, she spent a year as an
Americorps VISTA volunteer at A Wider Circle before joining
the In-Kind Donations team. In November, she became the
Director of In-Kind Donations. |

Marvin Scott - Neighbor-to-Neighbor
Program Coordinator
Marvin joined the team as a volunteer in mid-July
and was hired full time as a Neighbor-to-Neighbor Program Coordinator
in August. He comes with a B.S. in Mathematics from Fort Valley
State University in Georgia. He hopes that his mathematical
mind can be put to good use while spreading smiles throughout
the community.

Sean Skelly
- Neighbor-to-Neighbor Program Coordinator
Sean came to A Wider Circle as a volunteer
in July of 2010 and now serves
as a Neighbor-to-Neighbor Program Coordinator.
He graduated from River Hill High School
in 2006 and works tirelessly seven days a
week to assist our neighbors in need. |

Maryam
Sodeifi - Administrative Assistant
Maryam came to A Wider Circle in 2011 as a Client
Relations intern and is now working as an Administrative
Assistant. Her passion lies in creating social change and
undoing systems of inequality, and she is thrilled to work
with such a strong team to impact the lives of our clients.
She will be finishing her B.A. in Sociology at George Mason
University in the spring of 2012.

Laura Whiston
- In-Kind Donations Coordinator
Laura graduated from American University in
the fall of 2009 where she studied Sociology and Political
Science. Laura joined the staff in June 2010 as a Marketing
Fellow and now serves as an In-Kind Donations Coordinator.
