School Community Program

  

The School Community Program is a comprehensive education and wellness program delivered at low-income schools in the DC area. A Wider Circle, through its partnerships with local schools, reaches the entire school community by providing resources to students, parents, faculty, and staff. These resources are available year-round and include enrichment programming, wellness workshops, and in-kind support. This program recognizes that education for both youth and adults is crucial in achieving the goal of ending poverty in our lifetime.


A Wider Circle intern leads students in streching at a Southeast DC elementary school.

Additional aspects of this program include:

  • Stress management, nutrition, and general wellness programming for parents, faculty, and staff
  • Physical enhancements to the school facilities including gardening, and painting
  • Provision of educational materials and computers to the school
  • After-school enrichment programs for students, including the following topics:
    • Stress & Anger Management
    • Nutrition
    • Yoga & T'ai Chi
    • Self-esteem
    • Physical Fitness & Activity
    • Mental Wellness
    • Hip-Hop Aerobics
    • Creative Arts
