Karen
Bortvedt is
a junior at the University of Portland in Oregon, majoring in Spanish
and Political Science. This semester she is studying at American
University as part of the Transforming Communities Program. At A
Wider Circle, her tasks range from being a friendly voice
on the phone and working with our Spanish-speaking clients to helping
out in the storage facility and continuing our fundraising research. |

Anthony
DeMauro is
a junior at American University. His responsibilities at A
Wider Circle include working with the School Community and
Neighbor-to-Neighbor Programs. Experience as a student-athlete
has helped Anthony to coordinate both physical education and academic
activities as part of Davis Elementary's aftercare program. Additionally,
Anthony's efforts go toward picking up and organizing the storage
of household items for the Neighbor-to-Neighbor Program. |

Allie
Handler, currently
a sophomore at American University, is a part of A Wider Circle's school
team. Her passion for helping others is allowing A Wider Circle to better
serve students in southeast D.C. Twice a week, she leads second-grade students
in educational workshops that cover everything from art and music to history
and local landmarks. |

Isabella
Lyle-Durham came
to A Wider Circle through Bethesda Chevy-Chase High School's internship
program, where she is currently a senior. Her balance of working hard at school,
playing soccer, and helping the community through her work with A Wider Circle is
continually refreshing. Isabella's natural leadership and communication skills
have made Isabella an important part of the Wider Circle team.

Natasha Paleau is
a senior Anthropology major at the University of Maryland. This
semester, she is serving as the Public Housing Wellness Coordinator,
organizing
events and activities in D.C. for low-income seniors and disabled individuals.
Natasha came to A Wider Circle because she feels strongly about community
development and outreach, and she wants to provide compassion, empowerment, and
sustainability within our local communities. |

Rachel Wise is
originally from Pennsylvania and came to the D.C. area to attend American University.
Now a senior, she is studying political science and sociology. This semester,
she is working on the Neighbor-to-Neighbor Program by assisting clients at the
storage facility and acting as a liaison to the community as she picks up donated
furniture. |
