Dr. Mark Bergel, Founder
Dr. Mark Bergel,
who also serves as the organization's Executive Director, earned his
bachelors
degree at Northwestern University in Evanston,
Illinois,
and both
his masters
and doctoral
degrees
from
American University in Washington, D.C. Prior to founding the organization,
he spent many years managing and developing health and wellness
initiatives. Mark has extensive experience developing and implementing
programs for low-income children and adults and is committed to guiding
A Wider Circle toward its goal of ending poverty in our
lifetime. He has lived in the Washington D.C. area since 1985.
Mr.
Jason Dahl, Treasurer
Jason
Dahl is a Financial Planning Assistant in Bethesda with AFS Financial
Group. In 2002, Jason joined A Wider Circle as a college
intern, and his roles since have included Assistant Director, volunteer
truck driver, and Treasurer of our Board of Directors. Jason was raised
in Oregon and received his B.S. in International Finance from American
University in Washington, D.C.
Ms.
Pam Feinstein, Chair
Pam Feinstein is
a former nurse who has received an M.B.A. from Johns Hopkins and is
a graduate of the Nonprofit Management Executive Program at Georgetown
University. Pam also has an extensive background in human resources,
having worked many years in management at Georgetown University Hospital.
Pam is not only the chair of our board; she is our most active volunteer!
On any given day she can be found distributing furniture to families
in need or helping to develop the strategic plan for the organization.
In 2005, she was featured in the Chronicle of Philanthropy as
a "baby boomer" who is making a difference.
Mr.
Sean Fromm, Member
Sean Fromm is a
consultant for International Network Services. He has extensive business
and strategic planning experience, and brings that - and a strong desire
to increase the philanthropic nature of corporate America - to A
Wider Circle. Sean received his bachelors degree from the University
of Maryland and his M.B.A. from Loyola College in Maryland.
Dr.
Pamela Loprest, Vice-Chair
Dr. Pam Loprest
is a labor economist and Senior Research Associate at the Urban Institute.
Her research focuses on low-wage labor markets and how government
policies can help to reduce and remove barriers to work among disadvantaged
populations. Pam has a Ph.D. in economics from the Massachusetts
Institute of Technology and has been at the Urban Institute since
1991.
Dr.
Anne Thompson, Secretary
Dr.
Anne Thompson is a child psychologist who works in her own practice
and
at Kidspace, a child development cneter for homeless children and
children of domestic violence victims. As the secretary of our Board
of Directors, Anne is also one of our primary "direct service" volunteers
and the coordinator of our "Just One Thing" events. Anne received
her B.A. in Psychology from Stanford University and her Ph.D. in
Clinical Psychology from George Washington University.
Ms.
Lisa Stransky Brown, Member
Lisa
Stransky Brown is a leading realtor with Coldwell Banker and sells houses
and condominiums in D.C., Maryland, and Virginia. She received her B.A.
in Public Relations from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. She moved east
in 1997 to attend American University, and earned a M.S. in Health & Fitness
Management. She currently resides in Bethesda with her husband, Matt and
her three children, Francesca, Fletcher, and Mitchell.
